SCENE 1
At dawn, Imam goes to the mosque for Subuh prayer, together with Cik Gu Leh.
SCENE 2
Cik Gu Leh: Have you heard of Mariah’s nasi berlauk?
Imam : Haaa???
Cik Gu Leh: How come you don’t know about it? Mariah, the sexy widow with
her short kebaya. Her nasi berlauk is so delicious. It’s finger licking
good. You’ll dream of her nasi berlauk every second once you’ve
tried it..
Imam : Oh, really! No, thanks. I think my lovely wife, Yam is waiting for me with her nasi berlauk at home.
Cik Gu Leh: Oh, come on! Just once. Try it and you’ll never forget.
Imam : Ok, just once. Don’t ever tell Yam about this.
At the stall.
They arrived at the stall. Mariah served the costumers cordially.
At Imam’s home.
Cik Yam is waiting for her husband, Imam.
Senah : Hey, look at that!
Joyah : What?
Senah : There, Cik Yam...
Cik Gu Nab: Oh, she must be waiting for her beloved husband.
Joyah : Pity her! She’s been very loyal to a disloyal husband.
Senah : let’s go. Have a talk with her. We must tell her what Imam been
doing at her back.
Cik Gu Nab: Let’s go. I like this part.
Joyah : Hello there! Cik Yam. What are you doing? Are you waiting for
someone?
Cik Yam : Wa’alaikumusalam... No, I just want to take some fresh air.
Cik Gu Nab: Don’t lie Cik Yam. We’ve been friends for years. Here, we want to
tell you something. We mean our sisters no harm, in fact we are very happy if each of us goes about doing her own thing. We don’t like to backbite our own sisters.
Cik Yam is confused.
Joyah : Cik Yam, the problem is now is that one of our oen sisters is not
doing her own thing at all instead meddling with other people’s
business.
Cik Yam : Who do you mean Joyah??? Errr,,, explain to me please,,,,
Senah : Mariah, of course, the nasi berlauk seller! Don’t tell me you
don’tknow what she’s been up to!
Cik Yam : No, I don’t know! What she’s been up to???
Cik Gu Nab: Cik Yam, Mariah has been enticing our men to abandon their
homes for her “Kedai Merpati”. Her nasi berlauk cannot be that special. Why, I am sure for one she cannot beat your nasi berlauk.
Cik Yam just nooded her head.
Cik Gu Nab: But, why do all these men seems hell-bent on having breakfast at
her place? I reckon, I mean, we reckon she has put something in her nasi.
Cik Yam : I can’t believe that, Cik Gu Nab. We cannot accuse Mariah of
something without any concrete evidence.
Cik Gu Nab: Look, my Cik Gu Leh for instance, would never dream of having
breakfast anyway but at home. Speaking of which, I saw the sainted Tok Imam himself having breakfast at Mariah’s.
Senah : That’s right Cik Yam. We don’t mean to hurt you or ruin your
marriage. But, it’s a fact, not a slender. I myself saw him having breakfast with her Cik Gu Leh at Mariah’s. They seem to be very happy with her service.
Joyah : It’s ok if you don’t believe us. We just tell you this because you are our friend. do something before it’s too late.
Cik Gu Nab: Think about it, Cik Yam. We need to go. We have something else to do.
SCENE 3
Imam : Is lunch ready, Yam?
Cik Yam : Why, yes Abang. It’s under the tudung saji.
Surprised to see that. It is still the morning’s nasi berlauk.
Cik Yam : I thought you would still like to finish off my nasi berlauk after you breakfasted at Mariah’s. After all, I have to prove that mine is still edible compared to Mariah’s, especially since the whole village saw you eating away, behaving as if your wife has never prepared nasi berlauk for you! And Abang, I had to learn it about it through someone else too.
Cik Yam threw the tudung saji on the floor, then run into the bedroom while sobbing.
Imam : Oh,,,women! They are so impossible, why do they have to go around
making life difficult for men?
SCENE 4
Flasback: the young Imam and his first love, who resembled Mariah.
SCENE 5
A scene where Imam cannot forget his first love. He always go to the mosque as the way to forget his past. He prays to calm himself.
Imam : Oh Mariah... Why do you have to be so like her...my long-lost love?
Why do you have to look like her from your toes right up to your
eyebrows! It’s a test. By Allah! It’s a test. Save me, oh God!..
SCENE 6
Imam knelt by the bed, kissed Cik Yam’s hand. Cik Yam was surprised. Imam placed his head on Cik Yam’s lap. Cik Yam stroked his head lovingly.
Cik Yam : Tell me what grieves you, my husband, and I will make it better for you.
Imam : Dear, I don’t want to hurt you, but I have to say it. I am sorry. I love you so much, but everytime I looked at Mariah, it will remind me of my first love. Please, allow me to take Mariah as my second wife. My love to you will never change.
Cik Yam threw herself on the bed. Sad.
Cik Yam : Oh wretched, wretched self.
Imam : I love you and always love you, my dear Yam. Nothing can change that. I will care for you.
Cik Yam cries herself to sleep.
SCENE 7
The flashback of the young Imam and the young Cik Yam. All of their sweet memories.
In the next morning.
Cik Yam : Abang, I’ve been thinking about it last night, and i am going to say
“YES”.
Imam : Oh, Yam. I appreciate your sacrifice and I will always love you. Thank you, you will always be in my heart.
SCENE 8
At Mariah’s stall
Cik Gu Nab: Hey Mariah! I know that you are widow, plus you are beautiful, but can you stop seducing all the married men in this village, especially my husband!
Mariah : I am sorry, Cik Gu Nab, but I don’t have any idea what you are talking about.
Cik Gu Nab: Don’t pretend like you are an angel. I don’t know what you have done until all of these men become crazy about you, including my Cik Gu Leh.
Mariah : Che Gu Leh???I don’t have any feeling for him. I am also a woman, used to a wife, just like you. I am not as cruel as you think. I know how it feels to lose our love one.
Cik Gu Nab: Still don’t want to admit it?? I want to teach you some lesson, so that you will never ever do it again.
Che Gu Nab and Mariah have a cat fight.
Che Gu Leh: Hey, Nab. What are you doing? Are you crazy? Don’t you feel shame with your behaviour, attacking Mariah like this?
Che Gu Nab: Owh, you don’t feel shame when you attracting Mariah, until you forget that you still have me, your legal wife.
Cik Gu Leh: Remember God, Nab. Don’t you worry about me. Mariah will be Imam’s not mine. Let’s go home. Ashamed on you.
Mariah looks puzzled, but keeps on her works. Still at Mariah’s stall. All the villagers keep gossiping about what just happened and about Imam.
Villager 1: Is that true, what Cik Gu Leh had just said?
Villager 2: I think it is totally true. We all know that Cik Gu Leh is Imam’s best friend.
Villager 3: Oh my God, isn’t that rather odd? The Imam and Cik Yam have be married for fifteen years and Cik Yam is a model of virtue.
Villager 4: Then, of course, Cik Yam is childless.
Villager 5: Oh no, I am going to lose my lovely Mariah.
Villager 3: But do you think Mariah will accept Imam’s propose???
At Mariah’s house.
Cik Gu leh: I am here for some reason, Mariah. I am here to propose you for my friend, Imam.
Mariah : Imam????
Cik Gu Leh: Yes, Imam. He wants to marry you. His wife agreed with that.
Thinking in silence.
Mariah : I’ll tell you the answer tomorrow.
At the stall, stiil dawn.
Cik Gu Leh: Do you have the answer for Imam’s proposal?
Mariah : yes, I have the answer and my answer is “YES”.
Cik Gu Leh: Alhamdulillah, I am going to tell Imam about this good news.
SCENE 10
At mosque, there are many people including Tok Kadi.
Tok Kadi: Aku nikahkan dikau Haji Ismail bin Lebai Awang dengan Mariah binti Kadir dengan mas kahwinnya RM 80 tunai.
Imam : Aku terima nikahnya Mariah binti Kadir dengan mas kahwinnya Rm80 tunai.
Tok Kadi : sah?
Villagers : sah.
Villagers: Alhamdullillah...
After the ceremony, Imam went to the bridal chamber. Mariah is already in there. He took Mariah’s hand and kissed it.
Imam : Thank you God!!!
